NEW TEAM
Fall ball has started, and you’re on a new team. You may be thinking, “But wait, I was on this team last year. It’s the same team, right?” Nope. It’s a new team. There may be returning players like yourself, but some players have moved on and others have joined from elsewhere. It’s a new team.
Beginnings are important, whether you’re new to a team or you’re a returning player. This is the time of the season when players begin to work their way into their roles, earning their spots on the team and laying the groundwork for their reputations.
How will you fit into your new team? Will you lead by example, doing the work quietly and consistently? Will you lead out front, saying the things that need to be said when they need to be said? Will you focus solely on your numbers, trading the team’s fortunes for the pursuit of better analytics? Will you fit in or stand out? How so? Both can be positive or negative, depending on your perspective: are you playing for the team or for yourself?
We all earn our reputations with our teammates by how we act and speak, and the start of a new team is when we lay the foundation.
What bricks will you lay down?
