Instructor and Social Media Coordinator
Amateur Career
- (2009-2013) Attended Archbishop McCarthy High School where he won 4 straight State Titles. McCarthy was revered as one of the top if not the top High School in the United States at that time. They would consistently produce top 10 draft picks every year while having two first-rounders in that time span as well.
- (2014-2017) Attended Nova Southeastern for college and was the opening-day catcher as a freshman. Went on to be the starting catcher each year in his tenure there all while making playoffs 3 out of 4 years. In 2015 won the program’s first-ever conference championship. After playing in the coveted Cape Cod League in the summer of 2015 and performing well he went on to be named a pre-season Top 10 Catching Prospect in all of college baseball. Michael was coming into 2016 with high expectations and he delivered as Nova Southeastern won the programs first ever National Championship.
Professional Playing Career
- After having a down final season at Nova Southeastern, he signed a free agent deal with the Miami Marlins and went on to play 3 full seasons which were spent at the High A level. Michael was always referred to as one of the top defensive catchers in the organization. Pitchers loved throwing to him not only because of his skills but also the way he went about his business.
- In 2020 he was released by the Marlins and signed a 2-year free-agent deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. This is where he was opened up to the “New School” of catching. The change opened up his eyes to the thought of not every catcher is the same. What may work for one player may not work for the other. It also opened up his mind to how important the weight room is when it comes to on-field development. Due to the unfortunate circumstances which came with 2020, he was shortly released.
Professional Coaching Career
- After taking a year off of baseball, he was drawn back in by a job opening as the Miami Marlins Major League Bullpen Catcher. What he did not know is it was much more than that. He was now on the other side of things being he started his professional playing career with the Marlins. From here on out he would take on multiple roles as he worked very closely with the catchers.
His daily tasks included being a catching analyst where he would dive into the current Metrics the Marlins and MLB valued and looked for ways to improve their catchers. His daily tasks also included that of an Assistant Catching Coach where he would take care of the starting catcher’s early work and pre-game routine. Over the next two years, he would hone his skills as a teacher and instructor of the catching position.
